When we see a swarm of bees, we usually have two thoughts: 1) "Get them away from me!", and 2) "Wow, they are really annoying." The truth is, bee pollination is very important; not just for their survival, but for our nutritional needs.

Did you know that bee pollination accounts for over $20 billion in crop production? In fact, some plants rely completely on bees including:

  • Apples
  • Almonds
  • Garlic
  • Lettuce
  • Kale
  • Peaches
  • Pears
  • Chestnuts
  • Cantalope
  • Eggplant
  • Turnips
  • Watermelon
  • Asparagus
  • Cauliflower
  • and more...

That means most of our fruits and vegetables consumed are because of the busy bees around us. When fruit is not sufficiently pollinated, the fruit can look deformed. Flowers even look more vibrant and appear fuller than plants less frequented by bees.

So, why are we so quick to swat them away? We need to save the bees; and it starts with bee keepers spreading the word about the importance of bees and bee pollination.

Work with Deerbusters to protect bee pollinator gardens from hungry deer that go after pollinating flowers.
