Lyme Disease is not something to shrug off; it's a debilitating disease that leaves many bed-ridden, sore, weak and unable to do things they once were able to do.
Lyme Disease is just one tick disease that is caused by a tick bite. It is the most common of the tick illnesses which is why we hear so much about it. More than 300,000 individuals are affected by Lyme Disease each year in the United States.
Lyme Disease Awareness Month is in May because this month is the heart of tick season as temperatures rise to a comfortable warmness. This observance month serves to educate individuals about the dangers of ticks and how to reduce the spread of tick diseases.
There are many ways to get involved this month including:
- Check out local 5K run/walks in your area that raise awareness of #Lyme.
- Join a workshop to learn about Lyme Disease prevention strategies.
- Share stories about Lyme Disease testing and health after the tick bite.
