The Asian Longhorned Tick, a new invasive tick species, has found its way into Connecticut. This makes the ninth state to sight the tick. It has also been found in the New Area and Mid-Atlantic regions including: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and Arkansas.
The tick is aggressive towards livestock; and may potentially release a lethal virus to humans; however, human encounters have not yet been reported.
Livestock owners are encouraged to check their farm animals for ticks and rid wildlife carrying ticks from farms with fencing.
